Community Preservation Corporation

Mission: At CPC, we believe that housing is central to transforming underserved neighborhoods into thriving and vibrant communities. That’s why we provide innovative capital solutions, fresh thinking, and a collaborative approach to the often complex challenges that owners and developers of multifamily housing face.

As a leading nonprofit affordable housing and community revitalization finance company, we utilize our deep, strategic relationships with government agencies, local community groups, banks, and other lenders to create customized loan opportunities for our customers.

The Community Preservation Corporation (CPC) was launched in 1974 through a joint agreement between the City of New York and its leading commercial banks to restore and rebuild New York’s aging neighborhoods. In the more than 40 years since, we have evolved and expanded our reach to become a consistent source of capital to underserved housing markets throughout New York City and in communities across the state.

CPC has financed more than 170,660 affordable housing units to date. With $9.7 billion in public and private investments, our work has helped revitalize countless neighborhoods and provided quality housing for low-income families, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities.

 Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)

Mission: LISC equips struggling communities with the capital, strategy and know-how to become places where people can thrive.

LISC is one of the largest organizations supporting projects to revitalize communities and bring greater economic opportunity to residents. These include more affordable housing, better schools, safer streets, growing businesses and programs improving the financial stability of people. We provide the capital, strategy and know-how to local partners to get this done. Our work impacts 7 million low-income Americans in both rural areas and urban centers across the country.

In 1979, when the Ford Foundation first conceived of LISC, it envisioned an “intermediary”—a smart and savvy non-profit that would connect hard-to-tap public and private resources with hard-to-reach communities struggling to revive.

We receive our funding from banks, corporations, foundations and government agencies. We, in turn, use that funding to provide financing (loans, grants and equity) and technical and management assistance to local partners and developers. Through our 31 local offices, a rural program that reaches nearly 1,400 counties in 44 states, and LISC-founded affiliates and entities, we work with a vast network of community-based partners to make investments in housing, businesses, jobs, education, safety and health.
